Pilgrim Youth Ministry Job Posting

Pilgrim United Church is an open and diverse community that values questioning, exploration and living out the faith in Christian discipleship. The youth minister will work collaboratively with our new clergy team and Youth Ministry volunteers to develop an effective ministry with youth aged 12-18 years.

Responsibilities:

  • Development of a Sunday morning program of 35-40 minutes per session using Seasons of the Spirit curriculum as a guide/resource;

  • Leadership of the Sunday morning program;

  • Development and leadership of a 2-3 hour gathering twice a month (meeting with other presbytery youth and social justice activities are strongly encouraged);

  • Development of strong relationships with youth that are fostered by pastoral care, Christian education and mentoring;

  • Provision of a physically , emotionally and spiritually safe environment for youth;

  • Establishment of a strong communication with parents of youth and other youth groups in the presbytery ; and

  • Development within the entire congregation of awareness of the gifts, challenges and issues faced by youth.

Education and Training:

  • Christian Education Training (such as a the Youth Ministry certificate) or commensurate experience

  • Experience working with and supporting youth

  • Awareness of community resources for youth

  • Understanding of the theology and structure of the United Church of Canada

Terms:

  • One year contract (renewable for a second year). Based on a work schedule of 32/hours/month for 10 months per year (approximately mid-August to mid-June) at a starting salary of $13/hour – to be raised to $14/hour after completion of a successful 4 month probationary period.
