Did you turn off your lights from 8 to 9 pm on Saturday, March 29th 2008?
Wandering around the neighbourhood, we saw that many houses had their lights out, but there were lots of businesses that were a blaze of lights. We did hear about some wonderful businesses that continued to operate in darkness. Starbucks at Westshore Town Centre had their lights out, but they were open for business!
BC Hydro reports that 2.5 million lights were turned off province wide saving 125 megawatts of electricity! If British Columbians did that every day for 1 hour, it would save enough electricity to power more than 4,000 homes for an entire year.
Earth Hour may be over, but we still need to take care of this beautiful planet created by God. Please continue to turn off lights when not in use and replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents and LCD lights.
