April 20, 2008 was a beautiful day for celebrating Earth Day. It started with a wonderful sermon about Creation by our Minister, Erin Sterling. The Church School had a special children's program for Earth Day too.
After service, many people stayed and had lunch at the Church. Then we headed out for a 5 km Earth Walk in the Royal Roads forest in Colwood (which is about a 2 minute walk from Pilgrim United Church!). What a wonderful way to enjoy this beautiful planet we all live on.
One of our walkers was inspired to write a poem.
Our Earth Day Walk
by Ruth Scott
We had a celebration
In the Royal Roads wood
As we walked to honor Earth Day
And the weather was so good.
Our group of twenty-seven
Aged from two to eighty-three
Just walked along and talked along
Wrapped in the scenery.
It was like we were part of the earth
The planet wrapped us 'round
With overwhelming nature
From the sky down to the ground.
What gifts we have in our world
What things we need to know
About our amazing planet
And how we need to keep it so.
