AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM COUNCIL:
Good news! The pledge sheets are in and we have received enough new commitment pledges to carry on to another full year. We received $11,354 for 2008; and $14,188 for 2009. It is with a joyful sense of awe that Council is reporting this news.
Over the last year with leaders and members of this church, Ed and Erin have discerned a vision of Pilgrim continuing to move in a direction of authentic Christian ministry. As this vision has taken shape, some people have felt judged while others have been inspired.
With the financial crisis resolved, at least for the time being, the question both Council and Ed and Erin still need to have answered is 'are we satisfied to continue in the way that Ed and Erin are leading us?' With the change in our financial status, the question shifts from 'can we continue in this way' to 'do we want to continue in this way?'
Council has asked Ed and Erin whether they can still affirm that they are called to serve God in our midst. Ed reported to Council that they still feel this call but are aware of some of the pain that congregation members have been experiencing. The question now is 'can the congregation also affirm this call?' The congregation, at the meeting on Sunday, June 15th immediately following the service will be asked the following question:
Do we affirm the direction that Pilgrim United Church is moving with Ed and Erin's leadership?
The ballots to this question will be counted at the meeting and the appropriate actions will be taken.
During our time together on Sunday morning Ed and Erin will share more about their sense of this vision and call. There will also be time for discussion.
This is an important moment in our Christian journey together. We ask for your attendance. Whatever path we choose God's constant love will still be with us:
"and I will be their God and they will be my people." (Jeremiah 31:33)
