Healing Pathway Code of Ethics

The goal of this program is to assist congregations and communities in developing and sustaining a healing ministry. The Healing Pathway, while training individuals, is primarily focused on team ministry that is centered and grounded in the life and structure of the congregation or community. The ethical principles and values of this code reflect the teachings and life of Jesus and the members of the collective Christian community. Key values are Compassion, Honour, Trust, Inclusiveness, Empowerment, Respect, Love.

The Scriptural References that guide the code are:

Mark 12:29-31: Jesus answered, "The greatest is, 'Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one: you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. The second is like this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.. There is no other commandment greater than these.�?

John 3:34. For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure.

Proverbs 3:27: Don't withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.

Proverbs 1:2-3: ...to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding; to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity...

Practitioner Code of Ethics

To serve as an instrument of healing is a position of honour and privilege. It is the responsibility of the community and the individual to act with integrity and accountability. While offering Healing Touch, the Practitioner will:

  1. Respect every person as a whole and sacred human being.
  2. Care for any person no matter their race, religion, ethnic or national origin, age, sexual orientation, social or health status or financial ability.
  3. Be open to being taught by the receiver and the Spirit.
  4. Offer the opportunity to consent or decline the treatment and make certain the receiver knows what to expect from and during the treatment session.
  5. Recognize his/her own limitations and confine the work to that level of training and competency.
  6. When appropriate, request assistance or make referrals.
  7. Respect all client information as confidential. This infomration can only be passed on with client permission. If recording is considered, this would only be done in accordance with church policy or other authoritative organization the practitioner is working under.
  8. Respect the boundaries of the receiver.
  9. Continue to develop his/her own competency.

Practitioners Accountability in Congregational/Community Ministry

When offering Healing Touch as ministry of the congregation/community, the practitioner will:

  1. Ensure the ministry is accountable to a committee or other body in the congregation/community structure.
  2. Conduct oneself in a manner that is consistent with the collective values of the congregation/community.
  3. Engage in continuing development of competency through practice, personal growth, spiritual practice, and/or continuing education.
  4. Keep their integrity and judgement free of motives for profit or power.
